So, purely out of random curiosity: how and when did you guys fall down the rabbit hole?

For me it was shortly after the pandemic started (somewhere around March/April of 2020), when a clip of Sakura Miko's GTA5 playthrough in which she innocently repeated a certain word popped up in my YT suggestions.

I was at least aware of vtubers since early 2017 when my college roommate showed me Kizuna Ai for the first time (and like so many others, I thought she was a real AI at first), but mostly just kept them in background for a while.

Flash forward to late 2019, and this same guy shows me the Fubuki Scatman clip, and I was like haha funny fox girl but not much more. Hololive gen 4 debuted around this time, and he started posting some Coco and Watame clips, but I mostly ignored them. Then the pandemic hits and somehow I get recommended Pekora, and she was the first one I would actively seek out clips for since she was just a funny goober, and she was the first one I called my favorite. That is until I was also introduced to Korone through her Metal Slug and Doom antics. Throughout this time though, while I was following some Holomem on and off, I wouldn't have really called myself part of the Hololive community since I couldn't really catch them live.

That changed when EN1 debuted almost exactly 4 years ago today. This same friend was catching the streams live, but I wasn't really watching them or paying attention. However, I pinpoint the single moment I truly became invested as a vtuber fan when he messaged me that the shark girl was singing 'Ride on Time' by Tatsuro Yamashita, a song and artist I quite enjoyed. I checked her out and was like "hey this girl's pretty epic." Nothing prepared me for the impending insanity of Ame's debut though. For half the stream, I accidentally had dual audio going since I didn't realize I had 2 streams open (one in discord, one in Firefox), and I thought I was losing my mind. Once I realized what I was doing and fixed it though, she did the Watson Concoction, and I was like "bruuuhhh wtf is going on?" It was an experience that left an impact on me, and Ame essentially became my first true oshi. I would lose sleep catching her late streams, and it was the beginning of the downward spiral where I am today, and boy so much has happened in those last 4 years; it really has been a journey.

Can't really make the date, but it was prolly around 2020, but I can remember clearly, it was a Peko clip, the one where she goes "It's me Pekora" while playing Mario 64

If you're talking about this (adult)site or any vtubers. For this adult site before I came here I was into eroges(adult visual novels) then patreon funded porn games then here. In vtubers I've already discovered Kizuna Ai short videos. Sadly it didn't appeal to me because she does random stuff some doesn't even have subtitles but it's amazing because it's a VR character. At 1st I thought she was same to Miku Hatsune from Vocaloid I didn't know she a real person behind the scenes. Then pandemic came no work but i heard News about that a Shark girl gaining crap ton of sub + some Japanese anime girl playing GTA 5 saying "nega" and I have a shit ton of eroges and porn games to play then i discovered the vtuber group NijiEN because of Millie speaking tagalog in PH we are lectured that when there's a peenoise reach International lvl we're like hotwired to support it unless they denounce their Filipino status we will shit on them. That's when I fell in to the rabbit hole. ASMRs too f that lewd ones at that.

Technically i dipped my toes in 2017 or thereabouts with kizuna ai, then it was through clips of the jp girls, pretty sure the first was a Sakura clip. I went full in with the debut of holoen, as i couldnt get past the language barrier for jp streams. Gura was an instant oshi.

I'm really really bad with remembering time and dates but I definitely remember that amazing Fubuki Scatman being probably one of first and fave vtuber things I've seen. That and Lamar roast with little Japanese ladies saying the n word AND ofc "a" by gura

Watame's armpits lol

Kidding aside, i saw clips of gura's covers slowed down and boy i ascended to heaven. Gura (at that time EN only has 1 gen) has the best singing voice for me so yeah started there

Also watame's armpits

Not quite sure honestly. One minute, I'm seeing Kizuna Ai clips not being all that interested. Next minute, I'm watching Hololive clips with Matsuri being the one I watch the most. I think the clip that really got me into the rabbit hole was Suisui going full horror movie psycho in Project Winter. Ah I miss when Vtubers play that game...

Well one day in 2017, I was goin through yt trying to find poké-tubers to watch that wernt cringe/pandering to children (unsurprisingly difficult), till I eventually found this one channel by the name of Trickywi. Fell in love with her music instantly and stuck around for her pokemon fusion vids (this btw was when she was a fleshtuber).
After a couple years I had lost track of her bc for some reason back then I never subed to channels on yt n I lost her in the ocean of content I was watching. Fast forward a couple years after  that and I see in my recommended Trickys new vtuber debut video and I'm like "oh hey i remember her, so she became one of those vtubers I've been hearing about? Guess I'll see what's new with her."

Its been ggs ever since
It also warms my heart to see how much shes grown since I first found her, she deserves it :pepoLove:
Actually, fun fact, I think besides Critikal, Tricky is one of the creators I've been following the longest

A coworker introduced me to Korone during her Banjo Kazooie playthrough. The rest is history lmao

Late 2019 early 2020 Kagura Mea being a human trashcan got me interested but it took a while for me to fall in the hole since I found both fleshtuber and vtubers cringe "why would I want to have some random webcam take up a quarter of the gameplay Im watching" It was Papa Macchia clips and the ID scene that really dragged me in then I started expanding to stuff like Niji IN etc

Holy shit, y'all won't believe what happened a few hours ago.

Nijisanji's Q1 financial report was featured on Nikkei and Japan's CNBC. The headlines are about their recent situations, the buybacks, the revenue loss, etc. They're highlighting the 52M they burnt on buybacks that didn't pan out, thus erasing their revenue for the last year, and how there was a whopping 40% revenue drop with NijiEN on the last quarter ALONE - 50% compared to the last fiscal year. THEY'RE BEING USED AS AN EXAMPLE OF BAD OVERSEAS EXPANSION MODEL LMFAO

Between buybacks, revenue loss, and market shrinkage, they've lost about 81 MILLION DOLLARS last year. And that's because the yen is operating high due to the current inflation - their actual losses could be anywhere from that to around $90M. This is a disaster. NijiEN is one thing, but this will surely reflect badly on NijiJP too.

Worse than that: if this market trend persists, NijiEN will be wholly unprofitable come november(!!!). It's 100% dying before that. Prepare yourselves for mass graduations until the end of the year, cuz this time it's OVER over.

They also changed it so you have attend VTA to join EN so they basically canceling auditions for the branch

This looks extremely bad for NijiEN. I was thinking there will be dissolved next year. But when I look at the data, it is likely that it will even happen this year.
