I would guess that you didn't see the ads before, because you were using adblock? We all hate ads, but its the only way for us to handle the site.
There was a needed cleanup that we needed to do, forum should be a bit more responsive after the maintenance today.
Same problem here, I had 14 alerts on the bell icon, yet I only see 5 when I click on it
I'm having this problem too. I go to the Watched tab and click on threads that I haven't visited yet and the numbers didn't decrease like they normally do. I still have about 14 notifications when I have visited/watched all the threads needed for the notifications to be done.

Gofile + ero-me were never on that list.
