It's a double edged sword... whether their backstory was fucked up or not... there are pornstars who are very business minded and geniuses with their brand... it's why they're able to last in the industry so long. The most successful pornstars in today's era use so many other platforms for sex work (including OF and cam sites) and are heavily active on multiple social media accounts. At the same time, they are aware their content stays on the web forever so the question is can they mentally get past that along with their personal lives.

For me the gold standard is Sasha Grey.
