Yeah I can totally see that. I don't know how old she is exactly, but from a distant family friend who grew up in former Eastern Germany I know they had Russian in school as first foreign language. Even if she attended school after the iron curtain came down, I wouldn't be surprised if the English teachers out there were so bad at the language themselves that barely anything stuck with students
