Hey i was wondering how can i compress videos to save storage. I am running low on storage. Is there a way to compress without losing quality?

Appreciate the guide. Had heard of Handbrake before but finally using it for the first time after wanting to share a 12 minute video that was 1.5 GB despite only being 1080p. I followed the steps and successfully reduced the file to 291 MB. Looked flawless so I uploaded to Gofile, but it seems that (on my end, at least) streaming the video shows a black screen while playing audio. Downloading the file results in a normal, completely working video file. Any idea why this might happen? Or is this a nonissue?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

  • I will now insert my 5 cents into this thread based on my many years of experience with video. This opinion is not professional and you are not obliged to listen to it.
  • Any manipulation of the video to reduce its weight, in any case, will reduce its quality. Maybe it won't be so obvious to you visually, but it's true anyway. If you don't have enough space to store your personal files, then this is absolutely not a problem
  1. Register your telegr@m
  2. Create your own private telegr@m channel
  3. Pack your videos into an archive with a password using WIN.RAR . At the same time, do not forget to specify the size of the volume no more than 1.5 gb
  4. Upload your archive to this channel
  • The Telegr@m platform does not limit your space, so you can store an infinite amount of materials.
  • And I do not advise you to do video compression - you will lose quality anyway

In my opinion: Just compress it.

Do you really need the 4K 5GB source file? Or would you be OK with a Full HD file which only has 1.5GB instead? And if you mainly watch on a tablet/phone: Would HD resolution be ok aswell?

For me I realized: HD with H265 and constant-rate-factor of 25 is more than enough. This compressed 1TB of videos to ~400GB, because some 20minute 4K videos were 5GB :BOOBA:. I don't need to see every single pubic hair on an actress.

Also, H265 is your own opinion aswell. Do you want to watch your videos in a browser?
Most people will download the video anyways, because we are all paranoid hoarders. :pepeS:
I personally use h265 because video players support it since ages and I don't use a browser to manage/view my content.

Im also looking for a solution to compress, but my pc is kinda trash idk if it really matters xd
I would just use it for files stored on my hard drive
So with this in mind Handbrake is still the way to go???

This may not be what you want to hear but, if you're computer is "weak", that is if the CPU is not at least an I5 or Ryzen 5, you may end up spending more time compressing than watching. Pricing being what it in today, just buy another hard drive. Back in the day, when a 40MB SCSI drive was $379, I could see compressing... but now $100 buys at least a 4TB drive.

I down convert 4k videos to save space I use this free program
Please, Log in or Register to see links and images

I convert 4k videos to 1440p at 18500 bitrate the 4k videos I down convert have a min of 22k bitrate any less and it is not worth it to down conver

Min video card to down convert 1060 but it 1660 super or ti would be much better a video card for 2012 to 2014 it might take 6 to 8 hrs to down cover a 4k video with a newer video card it will only take 50 to 80 min

I have a MSI GTX 770 it takes 50 to 90 Mis to down convert 4k videos

I have down converted like 200 4k videos and saved like 650gb to 800gb

That's just stupid, it's not only inconvenient to watch/stream later, but also useless as Telegram introduces Premium which bumps the limit from 2 GB to 4 GB per file, so you can upload them as files and stream later from Telegram. Also, use "Saved messages" instead of a private channel which can be banned.

Kxng216 If you're running low on storage => buy a new HDD, they are cheap as hell costing only $40 to get 2 TB worth of storage.

Also, if you can't install a new HDD, a SATA USB adapter isn't really expensive either. Or use Handbrake as other suggested.

Do what I did then, buy a $130 Intel Arc A380 GPU, and you get access to hardware accelerated AV1 encoding. Keeping the exact same quality, ive been able to reduce the size of my video content by 40% over traditional H.264, literally cheaper to re-encode to AV1 with my A380 than it wouldve been to buy more HDDs,
