No, the start.bat upgrades and then starts the downloader with no/blank config files. At least that is what my experience was

I deleted all files in C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Cyberdrop-DL\Cyberdrop-DL and moved the config files to my main location then the program created another appdata folder in that location (Z;).I dont know if the program will create new files in C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Cyberdrop-DL\Cyberdrop-DL.
Anyway it works now with all the configs changed.

If you have the old one, it auto updates when you go to run it, it doesn't use any of your old files, it decides to use some folder in appdata for config and urls.txt and it saves your downloads to your main downloads folder. You then have to manually tell it to use your old download history, download directory and urls.txt locations.
No idea why an update of the old version should be this shit experience but downloading it from new behaves differently. Just default to the old locations and let people config to something else like they did before. Its not a hard change to make but it would greatly improve usability for those who are new or scared of Python / scripting.
No idea why Jules is enjoying those struggling. I get the impression this script is written for those who want to scrape and abuse this forum and anyone who can barely run Python and struggled to install this script is screwed.

What on earth is this .bat file everyone is talking about? I'm not running any .bat file to run it following the upgrade.
Is the "Start Windows" file you find on the CyberdropDL zip file. It's a BAT file but nowadays Windows doesn't show file extensions by default, you have to turn it on in File Explorer Options.
It's doesn't matter if you have that turned on or not, it works the same.
EDIT: Either that or you're on a Mac, in that case we're referring to the command file.
I fixed this issue by going into C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Cyberdrop-DL\Cyberdrop-DL\Configs, opening the authentication file, and entering my USER and PASS
I moved everything in configs to my v3 folder and everything is back to normal while using V5.
The process took about 10 minutes to figure out. Jules is running a social experiment, but it's easier than everyone makes it out to be.

429 is too many attemps (not by you, in general), the file or server is being hit with too many request at a time and it negates some of them, just wait and try later
403 I think is some kind of file access error, I get that a lot with pixeldrain links. I usually just to the link and download the file manually, althought retrying sometimes work

Likely because having an app working out of the user profile doesn't require admin to write to disk. It would be very possible to run the previous version somewhere that doesn't allow writing, unless you run as admin - which running a bat file as admin, if you don't know what it does (it's very clear that some people aren't tech-savy enough to check what a bat is doing) is a HUGE security issue.
Writing configs to %appdata% has been common practice for basically anything written after windows XP. That's why you don't have saved games being saved to c:\programfiles\game\savegames, they are saved to %appdata%/game/savegame

This will require a new start file (or editing the current V5 one) to remove --portable. As it will no longer be a thing.
For those of you that didn't grab the new start file. It should just work.

After updating it seems to be broken cyberdrop-dl: error: unrecognized arguments: --simpcity-username --simpcity-password... I use the .bat file each time to run it but after it updated stopped working and throws that error.
Give me two seconds to try and sort this out quick.
Alright, so in your start file, you'll want to remove both of those. Open up the config.yaml file and put your username and password in there
Thank you it started a long time ago out as V3 it still had that as a folder name then eventually it updated to V4 but it seems V5 is out now and it stopped working.
I went to your github and installed V5 imported all the configs but I am getting the following error in V5:
File "K:\CyberDropDLV5\venv\Scripts\cyberdrop-dl.exe\__main__.py", line 4, in <module>
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'cyberdrop_dl.main'
The version with the folder name "Cyberdrop_DL.V3" works again thank you :)
If you are using Linux and get error try uninstall first and reinstall. This fix the problem. However Bunkrr still give 429.
