Just playing with the Topaz Video AI trial as I just received my MacBook Pro.
It looks like a 32 minute video at 720x400, 30fps would take +/- 150 minutes when upscaled to 1440x800, 60fps (both enhancement and frame interpolation turned on).
Not bad, but not great.

Is Topaz the only way to go or is there any other decent apps? Are there any that work well on phones?
Topaz is the way to go. This is the way.
There's other apps, but nothing compares to Topaz's suite of apps.
Speaking of which, I said fuck it and pulled the trigger on the Black Friday sale. Curious to play with some videos I have on my internal drive to see how they turn out.

was originally 720×400 and 30fps. File was 1.1GB.
Using model Artemis for Enhancement while upscaling to 1920x1080. Used model Apollo for Frame Interpolation to increase to 60fps. New file became 21GB.
Using specifics mentioned for Handbrake, . Smaller than the original file, but with "better quality."
There will be things I play around with. Maybe I should give up the ghost on wanting to increase frame rate and just focus on the upscale. 1080p might've been a step too far for this file and I should've kept it to either 1280x720 (with cropping) or native 2x at 1440x800.

I've been playing around with Topaz more. Reading more through the Topaz forums alongside the subreddit. 4.1.0 has definitely improved conversion time anywhere from 2-3x on Apple Silicon.

- First pass through using Artemis (High Quality) for Enhancement; Chronos Fast for Interpolation.
- Second pass through using Iris (Medium Quality).
- I set parameters to manual and then click Estimate. From there, I skim through the video to see what numbers I'm getting throughout to determine a good median to setup for the whole video.
for quick upscaling, i setup an emby server to play the videos in the browser (Chromium based) with NVIDIA RTX video enhancement on, and the result is pretty good

Set up the Emby server, I couldn't make the RTX Super Resolution works on my browser, which is edge.
setting up is easy, just install and launch it, add your media folder, and run it on your localhost
and about RTX video you need to install the latest version of nvidia driver and edge
