Some questions:

Does DRM only apply to videos? Is the image download still working normally?

I also saw that there were some comments saying that Onlyfans can limit your account if you do a lot of downloads in a short period of time, it seems that Netflix does the same.

One more thing, how likely is Onlyfans to patch this method in the near future?

Yes, its only new videos uploaded after whenever that model turned it on, images are same as normal.
Models can still repost / resend older content they uploaded before changing the setting and that will not have DRM which may confuse some people

Onlyfans seems to detect the use of scrapers like digital criminals and then soft-ban your IP for a few mins.

No idea, at a guess they'd have to change DRM provider from widevine or use a different version of widevine, I have no idea how this sort of thing works. I think Onlyfans have to licence the DRM technology from Widevine.

It was not about Widevine but was about how OnlyFans implemented it as Safari not having WV is the #1 setback on DRM implementation. OnlyFans also cannot use Apple's FairPlay as Apple does not allow it to be used on adult content so the bypass was simply behaving like an iOS device using Safari but never got around to trying it.

I will try to add some more background info to the screen recording observations.

Google's Widevine L3 is a "software DRM". Technically on every desktop OS a there is .dll (or equivalent) loaded in by the browser which handles the decryption and hands over the decrypted data to an underlying software stack. The full data flow is something like this:

Onlyfans media server --> onlyfans client-side javascript (<--> onlyfans DRM licence/keyserver) --> browser (Encrypted Media Extensions API) --> Widevine L3 CDM (content decryption module) --> browser (media backend) --> OS desktop environment --> graphics driver --> [screen capture from here] --> screen

Widevine L3 cannot control that the information that "this surface has DRM protected content and thus should not be possible to recorded" propagates through the stack after the CDM - but tries to communicate it, and the result is dependent on if every part of the stack can and wants to honor this request.

The browser / browser config / OS / graphics driver are all variables which affect the outcome. So yes observations have the right to vary between people with a different software of any of these. The OBS or whatever screen recorder app is the least important variable.

Widevine's success is usually indicated by the surface with the DRM protected media being solid black on the recording.

Moreover Widevine may decline to decrypt some or all (resolution) variants of the content based on what the underlying stack it sits on is. The set of allowed stacks (in reality translated to abstract "security levels") are decided by the provider of the DRM protected content.

ps. This DRM will not make leaks impossible. As other posts indicate it is possible to get the source quality of the DRM protected content without screen recording. But Onlyfans doesn't need to employ unbreakable DRM. Onlyfans just needs to make circumvention complicated enough that 95% of the subscribers - who have exclusive access to the content - won't have the technical knowledge or patience to execute, and this forum / community is done for.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this.
Largely dont understand the technical side but as you say if it scuppers the average user who does not have this sort of computer knowledge then they have won.

Can only hope some wizz kid take on the challenge and writes some software that more computer users can work. I guess screen recording apps it is for the non technical for now!

If drm shuts forums down...it will also probably cut the subscribed numbers down too I guess

It will absolutely have a negative impact on the number of subscribers, and therefore OF's bottom line. To what extent that impact will be, I don't know, but I'm guessing it will be significant.

Only the most technically illiterate didn't know how to download videos before DRM, which means that a vast majority were downloading videos. When those folks realize that they can no longer do so, I suspect most of them will abandon OF completely, like many (including myself) already have. The value proposition just isn't good enough anymore. I mean, it was bad before, but not being able to download videos for personal use? That's where most people will draw the line.

Maybe that loss of subscribers will be enough for OF to backtrack the DRM thing, but I don't see how they could. They're too invested now.

As for them 'winning' and killing off communities like this one... I don't see that ever happening. As long as it's still possible to leak content, in some shape or form, the pirate community will carry on as it always has - though the quantity and frequency of new content will surely decrease.

Thats what I was thinking too, be it for personal use and to protect yourself from 'creators' deleted stuff or sharing or both. 90% must be at the download game. The shear volume of posts on here shows that and if you cant do that well its not worth it as you say.

Maybe thats not bad in the grand scene of things $$$

Questions for the ones who know about drm.

I think I read somewhere they are putting user into in the vid file? So if a easy work around comes for downloading the file how are you do you get round that and how would the user info be read out if ther drm stuff is leaked?

Does drm cause play back failure on older devices? I saw some people post on reddit saying that some of the subs couldnt view stuff they had bought with drm

*edit. the posts about play back I saw on reddit, when looking for info on drm

If it is a model that consistently reups old videos it will probably work, but unfortunately you won't really know if you haven't been a long time subscriber. But if she says it's a "Brand New" video. I would say test her main feed and see if she has any video clips. Those won't download if the DRM is on.

I would say if you're following cam girls primarily. Look for them to return to uploading more of their content on manyvids or mfc share. Most of the models were capitalizing on OF convincing the members they would have to pay more on sites like MFC Share or Manyvids to get the chance to download the videos. But, once people stop buying their stuff on OF they'll move it to the places where users can download it.

From the few models I follow if they sell a video on OF for $10 bucks it is usually $20 on MV or 200 tokes on MFC share. So subscribers that were paying for the vids if they still want them with this DRM situation are most likely going to have to pay double what they were for the benefit of downloads.

A good way to tell if a creator has DRM that I have been noticing is that when you go to play a video, and in the video settings if it is set to "Auto" and it's crappy quality and you have to manually switch it to original. then that means that good chances are they have DRM on the video or turned on

Just feel the need to point out that Denuvo actually hasn't been useless and is why it's being used more and more now. It has become a massive pain to crack, the only person left cracking some Denuvo games is an understandably very mentally ill person, and it takes them weeks to crack a Denuvo game while all others have given up and they'll only bother with very big games.

Denuvo has succeeded at its purpose, preventing piracy in those most crucial first few launch weeks where hype will push many would-be pirates to purchase instead. And unfortunately making these games run like dogshit in the process.

Another is if you have Firefox and downloaded the right-click toggle app, right-clicking will give you info like this:

I should mention this is on an old Windows 8 HP laptop, so I don’t know if this will matter for newer models on up but one way to check for any vids that might be DRM’d.
