You won't get in trouble but your post would be removed as soon as a higher quality version of the same content is posted (so any non-screenshot version).
But there is a guide for downloading OF content in source quality, both for mobile and PC:

Assistance If you are looking for help with any of the methods listed you MUST say what method/script you are using. There are multiple scripts and people keep not saying which one they are using which means people cant give help without asking first

Fair warning. Your screenshots will get deleted as soon as someone posts from source/better quality, resolution(that's one of the rules)

Upscales are explicitly mentioned in the rules as reposting:
If another user's upscales stay up but yours don't, it's probably just because no one reported that other user's post.

one more question, is repairing damaged video not considered higher quality either? If the source is garbage, blown out, poorly encoded, whatever, is that the highest form the footage is allowed to take on this website?

In that case, I would assume the repaired file is considered 'higher quality.' It helps to indicate in your post the issues fixed, so the mods are aware if it ever gets reported.
If you aren't already, it's ideal to use a lossless video edior such as this one to keep the original quality.
Ultimately the mods will decide what to do based on the context.
Ah, that's a good little detail to know re: what mods might not delete.
Thank you for the recommendation; I do almost all of my video work in ffmpeg on the command line, and have worked in post-production irl, so I know my way around codecs pretty good. In cases where I need more versatile cutting, I use Kdenlive, which I can tweak to export "losslessly" if I need to. One thing I don't do is upload new generations of thoughtlessly transcoded lossy garbage. I don't contribute to the pool of internet video pollution.
To the site? That's for us mods to worry about.

I use a site called bravedown but it’s super tedious if they post a lot on their story. U can only save one pic/vid at a time. I’d love to know if anyone knows of any other ways to bulk download someone’s Snapchat story
