This forum's nautical theme reminds me of a great movie about the age of sail called Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.
It stars Russell Crowe as Captain Jack Aubrey of the British frigate HMS Surprise. The Admiralty has given him a mission: pursue a certain French ship to South America and capture or sink her. Paul Bettany plays his friend and the ship's doctor. A large cast portrays the sailors, carpenters, officers, marines, cooks and even powder monkeys who keep the vessel afloat and in fighting shape. The battle scenes are powerful and graphic. So if you watch this, you can see men with titles like yours--"master of arms", "cooper", "first mate" and so forth.
I know I've seen a few other sailing ship type movies but I can't remember them well enough at the moment. Feel free to suggest some.
Maybe some of the Hornblower stories that have been made into films over the decades.

One Night at McCool's is pure gold :D just finished watching it I was laughing so hard at the ending :D

the Martian is one that actually lived up to the hype for me that and the other guys is like the perfect comedy
