Tools Any good free tools to generate a preview image(s) for videos

So i've been thinking about posting more content here and I noticed some folks post a Preview image with frames from the video in question. is there a free tool floating around to make that? I've seen these for years on other forums and I never really looked into how they're made

I use mtn , one executable file, and can be run through a script. Use whatever you are comfortable with, the end result is the same.

mtn -g 4 -c 3 -r 5 -b 0.6 -D6 -k 272727 -f DejaVuSansMono.ttf -F FFFF00:10 FILENAME.mp4

I haven't used it myself (yet), because I was just researching what tool to use and also landed on mtn for my needs (automation/scripting).
