They're selling the rights to rwby. That does not mean the company who buys the rights gets the whole production team with it. They get to control where the show streams on and if new season or reboot happens.

It was confirmed on the RT sub that RT employees found out about this in an all-hands meeting this morning, at the same time the Variety article was published. Pretty fuckin cold blooded imo
In fairness I think they were probably aware, much as the rest of us, that the current numbers weren't sustainable and RT's days were numbered. If any of them weren't already thinking about what is next for them then it's kinda their fault.

They were treading water for awhile until her and trevor got their titles and then everything was downhill from there lmao
in regards to her streaming on twitch, who would watch that? when RT core started streaming and gaming during the pandemic she was always the worst at and wasnt funny enough to at least get beyond her lack of skill
It feels pretty to safe to say most on camera talent will probably band together and start a new youtube channel. Theres still plenty of RT fans that would follow and lots of money to be made in the youtube scene still. I would be shocked if most people didnt already have back up plans ready. The writing has been on the wall for awhile now.
Barbara just posted her first tweet about this. Her tweet to me sounds similar to Kerry's, so I think she is out likely too. Sad to see IMO, I grew up with these guys. I get this is not the place for it, but man, WBD really are just all business and seeing everyone as a number, and people said Disney was bad.

If they go this route, it'd be streaming, recorded content, and probably patreon. But maybe some of them will prefer to be behind the scenes as they get older.
If I had to guess, I say they didn't necessarily have a backup plan, but at least had resumes/reels/portfolios updated for the inevitable.

I mean, Gav, Geoff, Guss, Bernie, and I bet others left doing fine with their own thing. I know Geoff and Gav made their own company, as did Bernie. Guss has his new Podcast that won awards, and Allanah who worked with them before now helps SONY Santa Monica Studios. The issue is, most have very talented portfolios already. While I saw someone above say Barb can be a streamer, the real thing is, she is actually their manager, and for the most part, despite their ship sinking, she did a DAMN good job at what she was, being a manager. People will want her just for that alone, more so NEED her for that.
