Hey Guys

I researched a little bit and can't find a really good solution except hdd's. I want to download and save +8TB of content so it's safe. I will upload to bunkrr pixeldrain etc too but most of the files get deleted and I don't really know why (not talking about my files). I'm pretty sure there are paid plans but how would you store content that big so it's safe and (semi)accesible. (Doesn't have to be a filehost)

I think going the classic hdd route in the pc would be the best route? Thanks for everyone who replies

Really easy to answer.

If your files are gonna get views (visits) then there's no issue with uploading them to bunkr pixeldrain gofile, etc.. Do note that these 3 do delete due to file innactivity, and the last 2 delete if you get abuse reports (dmca, copyright, etc)

But if your files are gonna be used to cold storage, then bunkr is out of the question, pixeldrain and gofile both allow youto pay for premium so that your files dont get deleted due to inactivity (they will still delete if an abuse report comes in).

If you aren't planning on sharing then simply get a MEGA account and call it a day,

I use gdrive and mega to store my files, don't have problems so far, but not sharing.

I store some movies, tv shows, music clips and porn

the problem is: the free account have 15gb. The paid ones charges per year almost the cost of a external hdd

if anyone knows better solutions, please

In my opinion you would be out of your mind to pay for a subscription to host these files, as first this would cost an arm and a leg over a couple year timeframe, and second of all, most file hosts (with the exception of Bunkr/GoFile/PixelDrain/etc) scan for child sexual abuse material (CSAM). However, this is done automatically and on top of that, there is a good chance the goal post will keep moving more and more, until porn is also no longer allowed.
Gdrive/OneDrive/etc are out of the question for me. I think it would be much, much better in the long run if you would just buy a large HDD to store the files on. You can get 20/22 TB HDD's now. All you need is a cheap 3.5 inch enclose to put that thing in and you can take or store it anywhere and have plenty of room to spare. But that is just my two cents.

A NAS ideally in a RAID-1 configuration if you value having a backup, would be the most cost effective solution for long term storage and stability. Just be sure your network is secure beforehand. For media storage, nothing will top physical storage, and a NAS is as good as it gets.

You can get used 8TB external HDD on ebay for < $60 (completely enclosed, simply plug in power cord, plug usb to computer, functions like a gigantic fucking thumb drive.) I once ordered 4x 5tb used drives from newegg's ebay and they fucked up and sent 5x 8tb NEW drives instead. Great storage for porn.

if you're ever worried about the condition of the hard drives, ask for the 'crystal disk info' to see if the drive has been used to shit. Crystal disk is a hard drive analysis tool that shows how much wear the drive has been put through, how many times it's been powered on, how many hours it's been powered on. If they don't want to provide you such info, it is either in a bad condition or they are too lazy.

If you want to store data locally and it's something you don't want to risk losing, I strongly recommend setting 2 HDDs in a RAID 1 configuration. It's a mirrored array, meaning that 2 HDDs are seen as one and everything is saved onto both of them. If 1 HDD ever fails, the other still has everything and you just need to replace the failed disk if you want to keep the RAID 1 active.

Considering this is mission critical we should store it so that it’s accessible, available, archival quality, and accessible.

This means you should store it

1) using a redundant raid type system. This ensures that even if one drive fails, you have a backup at the ready!

2) on top of the raid, use a BTRFS file system for example that monitors changes to files so if you accidentally delete something it’s not lost.

3) use an off site backup solution so that even if both drives fail for example in a fire you have a backup. I recommend AWS deep glacier storage.

4) using something like plex with a file server that has hardware encoding means you can get to your videos and watch them even if you are away from home or are accessing from a device that can not support the native video source. For example watching 4k source video on low bandwidth.

Something like a synology with local redundancy and backing up offsite is the way to go.

Do you not have concerns about using Amazon for your storage? Considering the nature of what people here are storing, I could imagine wanting to go with a more independent company, possibly located outside of the U.S.
I mean, WhatsApp may have end-to-end encryption, but if I want privacy I'm not going to use a Meta-owned app.

Excellent question. If you are concerned about privacy, I wouldn't trust anyone because no company is truly independent. Encrypted volumes and encrypted backups should be added to best practices:

5) encrypted volumes, and encrypted hyper backups makes sure your private files are private.
