Even with a VPN the download is very slow, I believe it could be the VPN service. Does it indicate any?

I don't know what you mean here, but pixeldrain works fine for me behind a vpn for upload and download. some commercial vpn companies seem to restrict heavy usage though, so, maybe that's going on for you.
Besides using a vpn you could also use a download manager such as jdownloader2. it's free and works fine with pixeldrain. the speed limit would matter less then because you can just leave it running and downloading.
there's also other areas on this site to ask for help downloading stuff.
with respect, my personal experience with gofile has been "it works fine for smaller uploads, but bigger uploads of large and multiple files, maybe 100gb+, it can become problematic." so, i apologize if pixeldrain is inconvenient for you, but i'm going to keep using it regardless
