I tried to send the following question to another user, but it's saying its spam and I should contact admin.
I see a lot of encoding mistakes on these forums, but since I can't post about them in the content forums, I have tried to figure out or help by contacting the submitters/editors themselves. I've been using ffmpeg and other vid apps at an advanced level for years now, just trying to keep quality up and help out a little. Thank you!
Hello! Thank you for sharing your Selty content. I was wondering if you were encoding these with crf24 for a reason?
FFmpeg's "ultrafast" preset encodes at crf23, which is the worst quality but fastest encode time in any preset and is default for most transcoding apps based on ffmpeg (which is most of them). Crf 17-18 is said to be lossless to the human eye.
I transcode with the following settings:
ffmpeg -i inputfile -preset veryslow -crf 17 -crf_max 19 -subq 11 -me_range 64 outputfile
This will make a lossless looking, very nice encode. Compare crf 17 to crf 24, it's quite a change.
Cheers!
