Hi,

How do you guys download sub-only Twitch VODS in source quality? For the past year i have been using TwitchRecover. It doesnt seem to work anymore (since ~ 3 Weeks) and crashes if i enter a sub-only VOD. I have tried https://github.com/Franiac/TwitchLeecher/releases, but this also doesn't work since i am not subscribed to the corresponding channels.

For example: I want to download VODs like this or

Apologies if i asked this in the wrong section.

Just some notes about using TwitchTracker. The website has a problem identifying when a stream ends unless there is a long time gap between streams. A good source for detailed vod information is the website Streamscharts. If you are using TwitchRecover you can just copy/paste the vod number (just the numbers) from Streamscharts into a TwitchTracker link. Then use the fake link in TwitchRecover.

Example: Msfiire stream on Feb 17 (UTC+0)

1. https://twitchtracker.com/msfiiire/streams/41859691035 This link exists and gives https://vod-secure.twitch.tv/c7401f...41859691035_1676603651/chunked/index-dvr.m3u8 which is only a 17min vod.

2. Now look at Streamscharts. It has a link with the vod number 41859691035 and another https://streamscharts.com/channels/msfiiire/streams/41859774747.

3. Take the vod number 41859774747 and create a fake link https://twitchtracker.com/msfiiire/streams/41859774747 (does not exist). Put that into TwitchRecover and get https://d2nvs31859zcd8.cloudfront.n...41859774747_1676604795/chunked/index-dvr.m3u8 which is the remaining 1hr 24min of the vod because the stream was interrupted.

4. If using the fake TwitchTracker link doesn't work try the TwitchRecover brute force option using the vod number and start time from Streamscharts.

Posted this in a content thread and now seeing this guide exists, just copypasta-ing what I put there:

For anyone wanting to see a twitch stream they missed that isn't available as a VOD on their twitch channel and doesn't know how:

1. Get a link from https://twitchtracker.com -> search for the streamer you want (e.g. strawberrytabby) -> go to "streams" tab -> scroll down and find the stream you want (listed by date) -> open link for the stream -> copy the url from your browser (e.g. https://twitchtracker.com/strawberrytabby/streams/41323639337)

2. download twitchrecover - https://github.com/TwitchRecover/TwitchRecover and VLC if you don't have it - https://www.videolan.org/vlc/

3. Run twitchrecover, it'll give a bunch of options, choose 5 -> hit enter -> paste the link you copied from twitchtracker -> hit enter -> select a resolution -> wait a few seconds and it will give you the m3u8 playlist link -> copy that link

4. Run VLC, select "Media" from the menu bar, then "Open network stream" -> enter the url generated from twitchrecover (e.g. https://d1m7jfoe9zdc1j.cloudfront.n...41323639337_1683412086/chunked/index-dvr.m3u8) and there's your video.

As of now (2023-05-07) this works at least in general for "regular" as well as unlisted or sub-only streams from the past 60 days. The vod in question totalled ~14gb in source quality which is a tall ask to upload anywhere let alone expect people to download, so hopefully this helps someone.

Tried to keep it simple and step-by-step, if you know anything I can clarify lmk

I had an issue with this yesterday, after I pasted the link in the app, it just closed. But then I reinstalled it and it started working. Really weird.

Is TwitchRecover even still supported? it hasn't been updated in years and doesn't return many results when i use it.

I still use it. Just remember that Twitch only maintains vods for 60 days (less time non-partners and highlight may be saved longer). If the streamer disabled vods there might not be one on Twitch servers. If the streamer deleted the vod before the 60 days it is gone. When you input forced dates on Twitch Recover be sure the date-time is in UTC. Some versions of TwitchRecover don't have the updated server list so some regions may not appear when searched.

is TwitchRecover still working for you guys? I tried to recover a VOD from a stream less than 24 hours since it got deleted and I keep getting the "The VOD cannot be found on twtich servers" error

ps: it's not a korean stream (I'm aware that they no longer store VODs/clips)

There are a few issues with TwitchRecover and how you try to find the vods. The twitchtracker link option is notoriously unreliable. If you use v1.2 you can use the brute force option. This option can be unreliable depending on twitch server response and vod start time information. If you use brute force I suggest streamscharts.com for the most reliable vod start data. Common problems are (1) Be sure you are using UTC+0 time (2) Try starting times before or after the time listed in 1min increments up to +/- 5min. (3) The vod may not exist at all if it is manually deleted. I still use TwitchRecover daily.
