If you'd read the rules, you'll see that if the model has a content thread outside of requests, we don't allow a second thread in requests, instead requests should go in the models discussion thread. This is to stop people farming content between the request and content thread which is difficult for us to notice and makes merging threads without reposts difficult.
Yeah, I agree that would be nice but not every model warrants a discussion thread so it would be a huge database load increase to have them automatically created so we let them be created by users as the need/want arises. As for pinning links to discussion threads users make, that is manually done by mods and you can ask this to be done by reporting the post.
Unfortunately, the pinning (sticking) system xenforo (forum software) has is shit, it pins the post number and not the post ID, for the post above this one the number is #893 and the ID is 3963961. The problem is when we remove dead links or other spam from before the pinned post, post #893 is now a different post in the thread so the wrong post ends up pinned and someone then needs to notice, tell us and we re-pin the right one.
One thing I have seen on another site that I liked was tabs in threads, so one tab would be the main thread as we know, the other was reviews. That forum was focused on games so the main thread was about the game, updates, download links etc. The reviews tab was peoples reviews of the game.
I could see a rework of that being one tab for the main thread and the other for discussion, re-up requests etc. The problem we have is risk, addons like that are not made by xenforo but by other people and so may not be as well tested or hold up to larger forum load (we are a big forum with a lot of online users, at peak 62K+) so we have to be careful adding such things. That is just one reason why we don't have comments, we've seen them cause server load issues for others.
